We recently had a customer complement us on a simple layout rule found in our GAMA Spec No. 1 - POH/AFM publications (based on S1000D Issue 4.2).
Rather than treating the Data Module Code "markers" as primary content, we instead present them using a less prominent grey tone to create a clear visual distinction between the technical information and the supporting markers:

This approach allows the markers to remain easily identifiable for configuration control purposes, whilst ensuring the reader’s attention remains focused on the technical content itself.
Simple, but effective.
Credit where credit is due ... this is where the original inspiration came from:
ATA Spec 1000BR - Layout inspiration
In the ATA Spec 1000BR specification, the authors were using this concept to emphasise different parts of the page.
While we are not using such a light tone of grey, we felt the "concept" definitely worked!
