During the course of an S1000D project, the Author is often required to seek technical advice from a third party Subject Matter Expert (SME). If the SME doesn’t have the same toolset as the Author then how are they going to view the Data Module (DM). The simplest and most cost effective workaround is to deliver the DM to the SME as an S1000D formatted PDF file.
Currently, there are a few software vendors offering S1000D stylesheets in some proprietary formats like the Arbortext Editor FOSI file or the Adobe Framemaker EDD file. For S1000D XML DM's, Docuneering have taken a totally different approach by not partnering with any vendor and instead creating a set of standalone W3C XSL Version 1.1 compliant FO stylesheets (XSL-FO).
This gives customers much more flexibility when sourcing S1000D XML toolsets because the Docuneering Vendor-Neutral XSL-FO stylesheets will plug into most XML Editors.
If your company is already running a bespoke Authoring/Publishing system and the process of customising it to add the Docuneering Vendor-Neutral XSL-FO Stylesheets would be too costly then Docuneering also offers a complete Standalone S1000D - Data Module to PDF solution.
With the Docuneering Standalone S1000D - Data Module to PDF tool, you create your SGML or XML Data Modules as you always have without any change to the workflow. However, when you need a PDF file, you now use the Docuneering Standalone S1000D - Data Module to PDF to create your PDF.
And ... That's It!
Our Vendor-Neutral S1000D XSL-FO Stylesheets support the following S1000D doctypes...
The S1000D specification is vast (3000+ pages) and the XML structure is complex.
In order to allow customers to "try before they buy", Docuneering have created a fully working "Demo Version" of our S1000D Vendor-Neutral XSL-FO Stylesheets. Customers are then free to test it out on their own data without any Security Classification or ITAR issues.

As you will no doubt appreciate, the S1000D Specification has many separate and distinct Issues and each Issue has many doctypes. If you would like to discuss a specific Issue or a specific set of doctypes then please get in touch.
